Verbena
Verbena is much loved by butterflies and pollinators. To grow Verbena pick a sunny and sheltered spot with plenty of space as the stem can grow as high as 2m. Leave flowers to develop seedheads for the birds and cut back before growth starts again in spring (plants might not survive winter if it's really cold). If happy, plants will self-seed but they can also be propagated from cuttings. To ensure they survive winter with success protect the crown of the plant from frost. The dead stalks can be left to provide winter interest, but an autumn mulch with well-rotted manure or a covering of straw, will protect the roots from frost.
