A Greener Approach

Led by consortium organisations, OrganicLea and the Ubele Initiativethe Wolves Lane Centre is a horticultural centre and community food growing hub with a mission to make good food accessible to all. We grow and distribute sustainably produced food and plants, and offer a hub for education, events, social enterprise and leadership development.

We're now undergoing a major transformation!

Teaming up with architects Material Cultures and Studio Gil, ecologists, and the community, we're revamping the Centre into a thriving, climate-resilient space. Thanks to funding from the National Lottery, the Mayor’s Good Growth Fund, Haringey council and the Clothworkers’ Foundation, we're introducing a new eco-building plan equipped with ecologically-informed soft landscaping, reed-beds, sustainable drainage, and rainwater harvesting.

The project re-animates the previously dilapidated site by retaining the existing glasshouses and adding much needed community assets. These will create new teaching, meeting and learning spaces, creating social enterprise and leadership development alongside produce packing and storage facilities.

The new ecologically-designed community hall building will host community kitchens, workshops and events. With two additional buildings providing classrooms, workshops, offices and a distribution warehouse. The area will include biodiverse planting representing the diversity and cultural heritage of the people on site and within the community.

This redevelopment is not just about construction; it's about centering local needs, promoting biodiversity, and enhancing climate resilience. As we embrace a greener approach, the Wolves Lane Centre will become a hub for education, a space for growth, a gathering spot, and a communal green haven. We're not just transforming a site – we're creating a model for urban climate-informed change.
